If you’re a reader or writer on Inkitt, you already know about our wide range of stories on both Inkitt and Galatea. If you’re not (yet) a reader or writer on Inkitt, welcome! Thanks for visiting us! In either case, you may not yet be aware of our subscription program and how it can benefit you as either a writer or reader!
We’re pretty proud of our subscription program. Let us tell you why!
Five Reasons Why the Inkitt Subscription Program is for Writers
1. The Money
Authors keep 100% of the profits after payment processor fees, while our competitors take a percentage of your earnings. Inkitt takes 0%. All that money is yours. Our mission is to provide writers with a platform where they can be heard and reap the benefits of their labor without the traditional bureaucracy and skimming of traditional publishing. We’re here to make you profitable. The money you make through subscriptions is yours and yours alone.
2. The App
Inkitt is available on iOS & Google Play, making it easy for your readers to access Inkitt, and it features a dark mode with options for reviews and chapter comments/emojis, which is great for reader/author interaction.
3. No Censorship
Inkitt has open content guidelines. We don’t discriminate, regardless of genre, to include stories with mature content. Inkitt further bolsters this capability by providing content warnings so that writers have the freedom to write anything they want while giving readers a heads-up, allowing readers to make informed decisions about the content they’re considering.
4. Automatic Audience
We have a pre-existing reader base that authors can immediately access as potential subscribers. Rather than having to build your audience from the ground up, you already have an audience full of potential readers willing to give your stories a try!
5. Publication Gateway
Inkitt has a tried and true path to publication via Galatea and a proven track record of making authors successful. From Galatea’s first big hit, Millennium Wolves, to more recent successes like Fairy Godmother Inc. and Requiem City, Galatea has launched careers that had their beginnings on Inkitt!
If you’re a reader rather than a writer, there’s a lot of benefit in subscribing for you too!
Five Reasons Why the Inkitt Subscription Program is Great for Readers
1. Early Releases
We live in the age of binge-able content. Few things, entertainment-wise, are more frustrating than finding stories you love and having to wait to read them. Subscriptions allow you to have the inside track on your favorite stories, often weeks in advance.
2. Exclusive Content
In addition to early content, many authors provide exclusive content just for subscribers! Get more of the stories you love available exclusively to you and other subscribers!
3. Premium Print
In addition to the above statements, your subscriptions can also help lead to physical copies of your favorite stories. When authors know they’re appreciated and their stories are a hit, they’re incentivized to facilitate premium physical copies of their work for their loyal readers! Supporting your favorite author(s) can mean not only exclusive content but also exclusive, rare physical copies of your favorite books!
4. Community
Unlike traditional publishing, you’re not just a customer; you’re a member of a community–a community that consists of you, the author, and your fellow readers (not to mention the wider Inkitt community on Discord!). Connect with the community, ask the author questions, and have influence over what you’re reading in a way that would not be possible in either traditional publishing or in a non-subscription roll.
5. Flexibility
Cancel your subscription at any time. Subscribe only to the content that you want, only for as long as you want.
There’s Always Room For Improvement
All that said, we at Inkitt recognize that perfection is a pursuit, not an endpoint, and there are always things we can improve on. We asked the Inkitt community for their thoughts on the matter. We asked them about the subscription services they use and what they would like Inkitt to improve. Reviews were positive, but they did point out some things they would like to see, things that we’re happy to report we’re already working on!
Michelle Torlot: I only have Inkitt, but as a writer, I have found that low to medium-range pricing works best. It draws in more subscribers (I gained 100 in the space of a month). The speed from subscribing to the payout becoming available is a slight annoyance also having to make a duplicate book to allow early access. I’ve found that confused some people, and I had a couple of messages from readers to that effect
Ashley Kyle: I only write here at Inkitt. Like Michelle said, it’s frustrating having to make two copies of the same books. I would love to just have the lock chapter option. So that readers can read the first few chapters free and decide if they want [to] subscribe to open the rest without us writers making duplicates of each story.
Arri Stone: I do Inkitt and Ream. The only thing I’d love to see Inkitt do is the ability to post chapters to what tier/or free section from the one story. Having to make two copies is a pain. Ream has a great system of how, who, and when you can post chapters to.
