Inkitt is excited to present: Hated by My Mate author, Nathalie Hooker<\/h2>\r\n
Nathalie Pauline Hooker Francis, who publishes her work as Nathalie Hooker<\/a>, comes from San Andres, a tiny Columbian island in the Caribbean. Born into a family of artists, writing is her medium of choice. Also a consultant for Claro Mobile Services, this busy mom of a four-year-old still manages to spend her free time writing, and it\u2019s a good thing since her book Hated by My Mate<\/em> has become an Inkitt fan favorite! I\u2019m so pleased to feature Nathalie Hooker on the Author Spotlight today.<\/p>\r\n Welcome, Nathalie! I\u2019m interested to learn about your family of artists. Can you tell us more?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n My great aunt and godmother, Maria Cecilia Francis Hall, is a renowned composer. She wrote the anthem for our island, Beautiful San Andres<\/em>. My mother, Cecilia Francis Williams, is also a singer. Additionally, she does a lot of painting and crafting with materials found around our island. My two older sisters also draw, and my younger brother draws manga comics and is a great violinist.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n That\u2019s a lot of talent in one family! Your art is the written word, but do you draw or sing as well? <\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n As a high school student, I loved to draw comics in manga style, and I spent a lot of my youth making adventure stories. Since I became an adult, I haven\u2019t had time to draw anymore so I took up writing my stories instead.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n I started writing Hated by My Mate<\/em> as a means of distraction when my baby girl was ill and we had to spend a month in the hospital. To get my mind off of her illness, I wrote.<\/p>\r\n Hated by My Mate<\/em><\/strong> is the book that captured our audience’s attention and put you on Inkitt\u2019s radar. How did you first hear about Inkitt, and what was it like when you got \u2018the call\u2019 from Inkitt\u2019s publishing team?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n My eldest niece introduced me to the Inkitt app. She said young writers were publishing great stories on the platform, so I started reading a few of them. Eventually, I uploaded some of my work.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n I didn\u2019t expect Hated by My Mate<\/em> to have so much engagement from people worldwide. When I got contacted by Leah Hinton from the Inkitt Team, and she said it had best-seller potential<\/a>, I was in shock, to say the least. I can\u2019t tell you how excited I was about this!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Are you planning to continue the series? <\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Yes, I am currently working on the second book of the Hated<\/em> series, and planning on a third book since I planned to make the story into a trilogy from the beginning.<\/p>\r\n That\u2019s good news! I\u2019m sure your readers will be thrilled to hear this. Before we go, can you tell your fans three non-writing-related things about you that they might not find in your official bio?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Before I became a mother, I was a flight attendant for Avianca Airlines. I\u2019m also really good at training dogs. Back when the pandemic situation began and we started lockdown, I learned to bake bread and rolls and started selling them around the island to have a steady income.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n I think many of us baked, and ate, a lot of bread during the pandemic! Guys! You shouldn\u2019t have\u2026!\u201d I said as I looked at the cake in awe.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cOh, c\u2019mon Rory! It\u2019s not every day you turn eighteen.\u201d One of the cooks said.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cYeah, pretty soon you\u2019ll hear your wolf, be able to transform into it aaaaaand,\u201d Mrs. Kala dragged on as she looked at everyone. \u201cFind your mate!!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n I rolled my eyes at the last statement as they all laughed.<\/em><\/p>\r\n After we ate some cake, we all headed back out to the hall to continue with our work when suddenly I heard a strange voice in my head.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u2018Hi Aurora\u2026\u2019 It was faint but clear as the day. It was my wolf. She had awoken at last.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u2018Um\u2026 Hello?\u2019 I tried to talk back to her. She giggled. And that\u2019s when she came into view. Her fur was white as snow and her eyes were purple.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u2018It\u2019s a pleasure to meet you Aurora. I am your wolf\u2026 Rhea.\u2019 She said as she sat there staring at me.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u2018The pleasure is all mine, Rhea\u2019 I replied. \u2018I hope we can get alo\u2026\u2019 My words were cut short when a delicious scent filled my nostrils. The scent were a mixture of wild pine, almonds and amber. It was captivating, almost as if it was pulling me. <\/em><\/p>\r\n I noticed that Rhea caught a whiff of it also since she had her nose high in the sky sniffing, when all of a sudden, she said the word that shocked me to the core.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u2018Our mate is here. I can smell him.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\r\n Wolfgang<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\r\n \u201cI said get of\u2026\u201d I was cut off when a heavenly scent soared through my nostrils. I pushed Max off me as I tried to sniff around the air for the source.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cWhat the\u2026 Hey!\u201d Max started to whine but I cut him off.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cDo you smell that?\u201d I asked him.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cSmell what?\u201d asked Tallulah who I had completely forgotten was even there.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cHuh?\u201d Max sniffed the air. \u201cI don\u2019t know exactly what I\u2019m supposed to smell dude.\u201d He said with a shrugged. I ignored him as I continued sniffing the air. It smell so sweet and delicate, like vanilla and marshmallows.<\/em><\/p>\r\n Suddenly my wolf was up howling like crazy in my head. He jumped and ran side to side as he too sniffed the air.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u2018Mate\u2026 I can smell her. I smell my mate.\u2019 Cronnos said from within my mind.<\/em><\/p>\r\n I stood frozen to my spot. This could not be happening. I haven\u2019t found my mate in eight years. Why now?<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cWolfgang? Are you okay?\u201d Tallulah asked.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cYeah dude. You turned really pale. Are you alright?\u201d Max inquired.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cUh\u2026 Yeah. I\u2019m okay.\u201d I said, still stuck to the scent.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u2018Our mate is finally here kid. Find her! I can smell her!\u2019 Cronnos shouted making me snap out of my trance.<\/em><\/p>\r\n \u201cI\u2026 Gotta use the restroom. Excuse me.\u201d I said as I walked away from Max and Tallulah. I had to find her. It was as if the scent pulled me.<\/em><\/p>\r\n I walked amongst the guest, not really acknowledging any of them. All that was on my mind was finding her, aside from Cronnos constant shout about it being our mate.<\/em><\/p>\r\n I kept walking until my hand instinctively grabbed a small soft hand.
