MEHER’S POV

After all the exams were finally over, I felt a sense of freedom. To celebrate, we decided to gather at a cafe with some friends from our previous school. Sanaya, one of my friends, suggested playing truth and dare, and we all agreed. It seemed like a harmless and fun way to enjoy our time together.

Sitting in the cosy cafe with familiar faces from our school days, we took turns spinning a makeshift bottle to determine who would be up next for truth or dare.

The bottle pointed to Krish, and we all cheered, making everyone in the cafe turn and look at us. Feeling a bit embarrassed, we apologised and focused on Krish.

“So, Krish, Truth or dare?” Sanaya asked.

“Um, I think I’ll go with the truth. Who knows what’ll happen if I choose dare? Truth seems like the safest option,” Krish replied.

“Okay, Meher will ask you the question,” Sam said.

“Guess I’m in trouble now,” Krish mumbled, avoiding eye contact with me, which made me smirk at him.

“What’s the most embarrassing nickname you’ve ever had?” I asked curiously.

Krish’s face turned pale, and his ears went pink. “Uh-huh! Can you change the question? I’m not comfortable answering that. What if you all start teasing me? I can’t take risks. My crush might find out, and my reputation will be ruined,” he rambled.

“No one will tease you, Krish. We promise,” Sanaya assured him.

“Pakka nah?”

“Yes, really. Just chill,” I said.

“Okay then, mynicknameischinku,” he said too quickly for us to understand.

“Mr. Robot, can you please repeat what you said just now?” I requested.

He took a deep breath and said, “My nickname is Chinku.”

Complete silence.

No sound.

And then...

We all burst into laughter, except Krish, who was blushing.

“Okay, guys, enough! Spin the bottle,” Sam ordered.

Krish spun the bottle, and it landed on Prajot, the troublemaker in our group.

“No need to ask him what he’ll choose, just give him a dare directly,” Kavya said.

“Prajot, take a silly selfie and set it as your profile picture on social media for the next hour,” Sachin suggested.

We all groaned at the easy dare. It should’ve been more entertaining, but Prajot didn’t care about his social media account. He confidently said, “All the girls love me for my looks, and it won’t hurt if I take a silly selfie. I’ll get swoony comments from girls.” The confidence he has is on another level.

Prajot, always up for a challenge, grinned and accepted the dare without hesitation. He pulled out his phone, struck a pose, and snapped a ridiculously funny selfie. We all laughed at the result, and Prajot confidently changed his profile picture.

As we awaited the reactions from his online friends, Prajot seemed unfazed, checking his phone periodically with a smirk. The comments started pouring in - a mix of teasing, playful banter, and admiration for his carefree attitude. Prajot revealed in the attention, responding with witty remarks that further fueled the light-hearted exchange.

As the laughter subsided, Sanaya suggested another round of truth and dare. The bottle spun again, landing on Kavya this time. With a mischievous glint in her eye, Sanaya posed the question, “Kavya, truth or dare?”

Kavya, known for her fearless nature, boldly declared, “Dare, obviously!”

Sanaya thought for a moment before grinning. “I dare you to go to the counter and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ loudly to the cashier!”

Kavya didn’t back down. She confidently stood up, walked to the counter, and belted out a spirited but slightly off-key rendition of the birthday song. The cafe patrons looked on with surprise, and even the cashier joined in with a smile.

“For a second, I thought I’d get a heart attack by this sudden act,” the cashier said, smiling at us.

We spun the bottle once again, and this time it pointed at me.

“Ah ha! At last, Sweetheart got the chance. So, truth or dare?” Kavya asked, winking at me.

“Dare,” I confidently replied.

“Now the fun begins!” Prajot grinned.

I didn’t feel too happy about my decision. Who knows what these goofballs would come up with for my dare.

“Go to any boy present in this cafe and give him a kiss on the cheek or wherever you want,” Sanaya said, making me glare at her.

I reluctantly got up from my seat, and just as I was about to approach someone, she added, “Except for the boys who are in our group.”

“Freaking tease,” I muttered under my breath, flipping her off, which made everyone burst into laughter.

I started searching for someone decent, not wanting any idiotic playboy to cause trouble later. Then, I noticed a boy wearing glasses, engrossed in a book, probably waiting for his order. He wore a black sweatshirt and dark blue ripped jeans, adorned with rings on his fingers.

My my

Fucking perfect ideal type

Thoughts ran through my mind, imagining how his hand might feel around my neck, making me beg to fulfil all my desires. Someone cleared their throat, and I snapped back to reality, finding the boy staring at me with a raised eyebrow.

“Miss, you need something?” He asked.

Damn his deep voice.

Can I just get butterflies by hearing someone’s voice?

I went closer to him and he abruptly stood up, as he was shocked because I was in his personal space.

“Miss, you-” before he can complete his sentence. I tiptoed and kept my hands on his shoulders as he was tall.

I kissed him on his cheek and whispered, turning away.“It was a dare given by my friends.” Suddenly, he grabbed my hand, turning me back towards him.

“There were many boys, why did you kiss only me?” He asked softly, cupping my face.

The way he was looking at me.

God! Just make him mine.

“You were the only one I found decent,” I said, winking at him before returning to the table. As I glanced back, he stared at me intensely, making a light shiver run down my spine.

Back at the table, my heart raced with excitement and nervousness. The playful banter and laughter of my friends surrounded me, but my mind kept drifting back to the boy at the counter.

“Wow, Meher! I can’t believe you actually did it!” Sanaya exclaimed, breaking the momentary silence.

“Yeah, that was bold!” Kavya added, grinning mischievously.

I chuckled nervously, trying to brush off their comments. “Well, you know how it is with dares.”

Prajot leaned in, his eyes gleaming with curiosity. “So, spill the beans! What did he say?”

“He... he didn’t say much,” I stammered, feeling a blush creeping up my cheeks. “Just asked why I kissed him, and I told him it was part of a dare.”

“Ooh, sounds like he was intrigued,” Sam teased, nudging me playfully.

I shrugged, trying to play it cool, but my mind couldn’t shake off the memory of his intense gaze. What was it about him that had captivated me so suddenly?

As the evening progressed, we continued to enjoy each other’s company, laughing and chatting away. But amidst the lively atmosphere, my thoughts kept wandering back to the boy.

Eventually, it was time to leave the cafe, and as we said our goodbyes and headed out into the night, I couldn’t help but steal one last glance back at the table. To my surprise, he was still there, watching me with that same intense gaze.

When I got home, I found my mom in the kitchen, and I couldn’t wait to share the fun moments with her. I told her about the laughter, the silly dares, and the great time I had with my friends at the cafe.

“Mom, you won’t believe what Sanaya dared me to do! It was so funny,” I exclaimed, reliving the excitement.

My mom smiled, enjoying my enthusiasm. “Tell me all about it, Meher.”

So, I went on, telling her about Kavya’s dare to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the cashier and Prajot’s goofy selfie challenge. But I decided to keep the kiss dare to myself; it just felt a bit too personal.

“Everyone was laughing so much, Mom. It was the best way to celebrate after all those exams,” I said, feeling grateful for the break from the stress.

My mom chuckled along with me. “It sounds like you had a wonderful time, Meher. Friends make such precious memories.”

As we chatted, I couldn’t help but think about the boy at the counter, but I didn’t mention that part. Some things are better kept to oneself, right?

The night ended on a happy note, and as I went to bed, I couldn’t help but smile, thinking about the unexpected adventure that had unfolded. Little did I know, that daring encounter would linger in my thoughts, making me wonder what might come next in this unexpected chapter of my life.
